In our Juniors class, we seek to make disciples. Children aren’t just the “future church,” they are members of the current church – the body of Christ. And if our ministry isn’t cultivating that position as part of the church family, we are really doing our children a disservice in their spiritual growth. And, we are cutting off our congregation from the valuable contributions from this group of believers.

Because kids are part of the current church, it is just as important – maybe more – that they are discipled as it is for the adults. For this reason, our Juniors class focuses teaching kids to:

  • Study the Bible: We open our Bibles together to study God’s word as we work expositionally (chapter by chapter) through books of the Bible.
  • Learn to Pray: We write in prayer journals to help us focus our thoughts, and use intentional templates to help us remember to worship God while we pray, as well as ask him for things.
  • Explore Theology: We are currently memorizing Tim Keller’s New City Catechism together, and we also spend time meditating on and studying the Attributes of God.
  • Memorize Scripture: We memorize verses as a group using hand motions. We learn one verse a week, and through this method have memorized whole chapters of scripture together.
  • Serve Others: Our group has special responsibilities for serving our church body, like taking BFG attendance, and handing out suckers to all the preschoolers after class.
  • Build Community: We have a lot of fun in our class—we have deep conversations, we have “donut parties”, we play with legos. We are even closer because we know we are brothers and sisters in Christ.
