Jesus Curses the Fig Tree [Young Disciples Recap]

For our Bible study portion of our Young Disciples class yesterday, we studied Matthew 21:18-22 (“When Jesus Curses a Fig Tree”).  Last week we learned about how Jesus had cleared the temple from the money changers because while the Pharisees honored God with their lips, they were betraying their hypocrisy by allowing God’s house to be used in an unworthy manner. When Jesus cursed the fig tree, he was using it as a picture of Jerusalem – they had the outward appearance of piety, but their hearts were not submitting to God.
